Halsey recently announced that she received permission from Britney Spears to include a sample of her famous track “Lucky” in her new song.
The “Without Me” singer, who uses the pronouns she/her and they/them, revealed on Instagram earlier this month a snippet of a song titled “Lucky.” This snippet shows that Halsey has reinterpreted Britney’s hit “Lucky,” originally from the iconic 2000 album “Oops!... I Did It Again.”
On Thursday, on X (formerly Twitter), Halsey confirmed to a fan that permission was sought before recording. “Absolutely!” she replied. “I would never have dared to do it without her consent!”

The release of “Lucky” is scheduled for July 26.
Previously, Halsey had shared a preview of the song on Instagram, expressing her gratitude to Britney for being a source of inspiration in her career. “When I was 5, it felt like Britney was singing directly to me. 24 years later, these lyrics take on a new resonance. I will always love you,” wrote the 29-year-old artist.
In another post on X, Halsey provided a glimpse into the themes of her new music. “I’ve written a lot about my personal experiences,” she explained. “I often felt isolated, even though it was largely of my own making. The weight of these experiences and questioning my own fulfillment have been central aspects of my creative process.”
Halsey has not yet announced the release date of her fifth studio album.
